Intuition
by Dominique ·

If you found your way here, there's a good chance you typed "intuitive reading" into a search bar, hoping someone could tell you something true about a situation you keep turning over. That's a good instinct, and I don't want to talk you out of it. We are all looking for a clearer view of our own life. Before you book anything, though, it helps to know that two different kinds of help hide behind these similar-sounding names, both can be helpful, and which one fits you depends almost entirely on what you're really after.
What is an intuitive reading?
An intuitive reading is a session where someone with a developed intuitive sense tunes in to you, or to a question you bring, and offers back what they notice: impressions, images, a feeling for what's moving under the surface. You arrive with a question. You leave with their read on it. At its simplest, a reading is a deeper perspective on your situation from the outside, offered by someone whose gift is to sense what's harder for you to see when you're standing in the middle of it.
That is a real and valuable thing, and I want to say so clearly from the start. I have a real intuitive sense myself, I trained in this work, and I can read for people. I've also had readings of my own that genuinely changed my life, and I'm grateful for them to this day. I built my own practice around coaching, and the rest of this is me walking you through the difference, so you can tell which one you actually came looking for.

What actually happens in a reading
Every practitioner works a little differently, so take this as the shape of the thing rather than a script. Usually you come with something specific: a decision, a relationship, a knot you can't seem to untie on your own. The reader settles into a focused, quiet state, tunes in, and starts telling you what comes: a sense of the people involved, an image that keeps surfacing, a feeling about which way things are leaning. A good one checks in as they go, asking whether what they're saying lands, instead of announcing verdicts over your head.
You can get a reading on almost anything. A relationship, a career fork, a house you're deciding whether to leave, or just a general "what is going on with me lately." Some readers use tools like cards or astrology as a way in. Others work with nothing but their own sensing. The tool matters less than the person holding it and the honesty they bring.
A good reading can leave you with a much wider view than the one you walked in with, and often with a real sense of relief. Whether a reading is the right call for you, or whether what you're after is something coaching does better, comes down to what you're actually looking for. That's the honest question this piece is here to help with.
Psychic reading vs intuitive reading: is there a difference?
People use these words loosely, and the line between them is blurry even among the people who do the work. Still, a quick map helps you know what you're reading about.
Term | What people usually mean by it |
|---|---|
Psychic reading | Tends to emphasize specific external information: names, events, timing, what will happen and when. The focus often lands on facts and the future. |
Intuitive reading | Tends to emphasize the felt layer: what's really going on underneath, the patterns, the meaning, what a situation is asking of you. Less fortune-telling, more insight. |
The honest overlap | In practice they blur. Plenty of intuitive readers pick up specifics, and plenty of psychics work intuitively. The label tells you more about how someone frames their gift than about a hard wall between two separate skills. |
If you're choosing between a "psychic" reading and an "intuitive" one, the more useful question isn't the label. It's whether you want someone to predict an outcome for you, or to help you understand what's actually happening. And that question is a doorway to the bigger one this whole piece is really about.

Which one is the right fit?
Here's the heart of it. A reading and coaching are not competing, and neither one is deeper or more evolved than the other. They're two good things that do different work, and choosing well is simply a matter of matching the one you pick to what you actually want right now.
A reading is a wonderful fit in a lot of moments. When you have a specific question and you want to be met by someone else's clear sight. When you want a fresh, outside perspective that isn't tangled up in your own hopes and fears. When you want insight into something you can't quite see from the inside, or a little confirmation for something you already sense. And if you simply love the experience of being read, and you return to a trusted reader the way you'd return to a wise friend, that's a real and beautiful relationship, not something to talk yourself out of. Readings can be genuinely life-changing. I know, because mine were.
Coaching tends to be the better fit when what you're after is a little different. When the thing you really want isn't the answer to this one question, but the ability to hear your own answers. When you'd like to build and strengthen your own intuition over time, so the knowing becomes yours to carry into the next decision, and the one after that. When you're in a season of learning to trust yourself again.
It's not that one is deeper than the other. They answer different longings, and different seasons of a life.
It's not that one is deeper than the other. They answer different longings, and different seasons of a life. Plenty of people move between them, reaching for a reading when they want to be met with someone else's sight, and for coaching when they want to grow their own. You don't have to choose a side. You just get to notice what you're actually reaching for today.
Where intuitive coaching comes in
This is the work I chose, and it's built for that second longing. Intuitive coaching isn't someone handing you their read on your life. It's a process of helping you reach your own knowing, your own sense of the next right step, so that you leave the session trusting yourself a little more than when you came in.
I want to be honest about what that involves, because "I just help you hear yourself" undersells it and would leave you with no real reason to come. Hearing yourself is a genuine skill, and most people can't simply switch it on, especially after years of a life that trained them to talk over their own signals. There's real work on my side. I bring the same kind of intuitive sense a reading uses, I hold a steady and clear state so I'm not pulled down into the heaviness of what you're carrying, and I help bring you up to where you can sense what was there the whole time. You experience it as a calm, honest conversation. Underneath, it's skilled work, and it's the reason the knowing you couldn't reach on your own becomes reachable.
When I do get a nudge, an image, a sense of what's really going on under what you're saying, I offer it gently and I ask whether it resonates. Often that naming is the whole thing. You had been feeling it all along, but you were too close to it, or too disconnected from it, to find the words, and hearing it said out loud is what lets you finally recognize it. It's my favorite thing to witness, the look on someone's face when they realize they knew it all along, they just hadn't had the words for it yet. You're always the one who decides whether it lands.
And here's one of coaching's real strengths. An insight someone hands you tends to stay in your head, where it's oddly hard to act on. You can know a thing and still not move. But when you feel it, when it settles into your body and not only your mind, acting on it gets easy. That felt awareness is what makes the change simpler.
What I sense is real, and I'll share it with you. I just never hand it to you as the final word.
What I sense is real, and I'll share it with you. I just never hand it to you as the final word. If you want the fuller picture of how coaching actually works, I go into it properly in my piece "What Is Intuitive Coaching?" The short version is this: a reading meets you with someone else's clear sight, and coaching helps you grow your own. Both are gifts. They're just different ones.
Questions people tend to ask
Is an intuitive reading the same as a psychic reading?
Not exactly, though the words get used interchangeably all the time. A psychic reading usually leans toward specific external information and predictions, while an intuitive reading leans toward the felt layer of what's going on and what it means. In practice the two blur, and the label tells you more about how a practitioner frames their work than about a hard line between two separate skills.
Are intuitive readings accurate?
A thoughtful reading from a good practitioner can be genuinely insightful, especially at naming something you already half-knew but hadn't quite let yourself see. No honest reader will hand you a guaranteed future, and the best readings tend to give you a wider, clearer perspective rather than a fixed prediction. That openness is part of what makes them valuable.
Can an intuitive reading tell me my future?
Some readers do work with a sense of where things are heading, and that can be genuinely clarifying. I'd hold it gently, though, not because a reader can't sense a direction, but because your future isn't a fixed thing waiting to be read off a page. It moves with what you choose. So the most useful thing a session tends to give you is a clearer sense of yourself and your next step.
How do I know if I want a reading or coaching?
Here's a simple way to feel it out. If you want a fresh outside perspective on a specific question, or you love being met by someone else's clear sight, a reading is a wonderful fit. If what you're really after is to build your own intuition and carry it into the decisions still ahead of you, that points to coaching. Neither sits above the other, and plenty of people happily use both.
Does Dominique offer intuitive readings?
No, though I have the training and the intuitive sense to read for people. I chose to build my practice around coaching because the work I love most is helping you grow your own knowing. I have real respect for readings and for the readers who do them beautifully, and I've been on the receiving end of ones I'll always be grateful for. If a reading is what you're after, I'll gladly point you toward someone wonderful. If you want to strengthen your own inner compass, that's the work I do.
If you're not sure where you land
If you read all this and something in you leaned toward that second longing, the one about wanting to grow your own knowing, that's worth listening to. If you'd like a hand with it, I offer a free intro call, and there's no pressure to book anything after it. It's a short, honest conversation to see whether this is your kind of thing.
with love and gratitude,
Dominique
