What Is Intuitive Coaching?

You have probably had the experience of knowing something before you could explain it. A yes that showed up in your body a beat before your mind caught up. A quiet no you talked yourself out of, and later wished you hadn't. Most of us are taught, gently and early, to override that voice in favor of the sensible one. Intuitive coaching is, at its simplest, the practice of learning to hear it again, and to trust it enough to act on it.

I want to start there, with the thing it is, rather than with the long list of things it isn't. Because the heart of this work is not mysterious, and it is not about me knowing something about your life that you don't.

What intuitive coaching actually is

Intuitive coaching is a form of coaching that helps you reach your own inner knowing and make decisions from it, instead of outsourcing those decisions to someone else. It works with the wisdom you already carry rather than handing you a set of answers from the outside. The aim is for you to leave a little more able to trust yourself, not a little more dependent on a coach.

Some part of you usually already knows what it wants. It just tends to get drowned out by the louder voices: the practical one, the fearful one, the one still running on someone else's rules. What I do is help you get back to the quieter, truer voice underneath, and that takes real skill, not just a sympathetic ear.

What actually happens in a session

There is no crystal ball, and no script where I hand you your future. But it is also not just a nice chat where I nod along while you talk yourself in circles. There is real work happening, and a lot of it is happening quietly on my side, so that something can open up on yours.

Here is the part almost nobody says out loud. Most of us were never taught how to hear ourselves, and if you have spent years a little cut off from your own inner voice, being told to just trust your gut is close to useless, because the line has been down so long you're not even sure it's still there. Helping you get that line back on is a real skill, and it is the one I have spent years training and living. I am not a bystander who echoes your own words back at you. I bring something to the room.

What that looks like from your side is mostly a calm, honest conversation. What you won't see is the quieter work happening underneath it, where I settle the space and meet you on a deeper, steadier level, so the sensing you couldn't reach on your own becomes reachable here. I don't narrate any of it, and you don't need to understand it for it to work. You'll just notice that, somewhere in the middle, things you already knew but couldn't quite touch start to surface.

People are often surprised by how much was already there, waiting, just under the static. That is the part that's genuinely hard to do alone, especially when you are only just beginning to listen for it again, and it is the part I am actually for.

I do have intuitive and reading skill, and I use it. Sometimes an intuitive insight comes through while we're working, a nudge, an image, a sense of what is really going on underneath what you're saying. When that happens I offer it to you gently and I ask, does this resonate? You are always the one who decides whether it lands. What I will never do is hand you a verdict about your life and tell you to take my word for it. My first teacher taught me never to assume I am the only one who can hear what is true for you, and that has stayed the spine of how I work.

And I should be clear about what the goal is not. It is not to fix you, and it is not to send you home with a to-do list. Fixing was never the point. The tools matter, but what they are always for is the same thing: bringing you back to your own spirit, and to the knowing that was there all along.

Intuitive coaching vs. life coaching

A traditional life coach will usually hand you a structure to work: goals, a plan, milestones, maybe an accountability system to keep you moving. For a lot of people that is genuinely helpful, and there is nothing wrong with it. Intuitive coaching starts from a different place. Instead of a template to follow, it begins with not only what you want to do, but what you actually, quietly want, and whether the goal on paper is even yours to begin with.

You will sometimes see this called spiritual life coaching, which makes it sound more mystical than it is. The way I think of the difference is simple. A life coach tends to give you a template plan to work. An intuitive coach helps you find the path your own spirit is calling you toward, which is not always the one you would have drawn up on paper. If a little structure helps you walk it, a nudge that you would do well with an accountability partner, say, that is welcome, but only when it rises out of your own knowing rather than being handed to you as the formula.

And you don't have to believe in anything for this to do something for you. Whether you experience your intuition as a spiritual thing or simply as your own accumulated wisdom speaking quietly, the practice of hearing it and acting on it works the same way.

You don't have to believe in anything for this to do something for you.

Intuitive coaching vs. an intuitive reading

Two comfortable chairs turned toward each other by a window in a warm room, with two mugs on a low table between them.

This is the comparison that actually matters, because the two are easy to mix up and they do genuinely different things. Both are valuable. It really comes down to what you are looking for.

In an intuitive reading, someone tunes in and shares what they sense about your life. You come with a question, and you leave with what they picked up. It can be clarifying and it can be moving, and there is nothing lesser about it.

Intuitive coaching works the other way around. Rather than handing you the answers, I help you build your own ability to reach them, so the sensing happens in you and you leave more able to do it on your own. A reading tends to give you a fish. Coaching is closer to helping you fish, in your own waters.

There is another difference, and it may be the one that matters most. When someone hands you an insight, it often just sits in your head. You might not fully believe it, and it can be oddly hard to act on, because it never quite became yours. When the realization comes up inside you instead, something you arrived at on your own, you tend to feel it in your body and not only think it. That kind of knowing is the easiest thing to take the first real step from.

Who intuitive coaching tends to help

It tends to help people who feel things strongly and have spent years being told they're too sensitive, when that sensitivity was information all along. It helps people standing at a crossroads, a move, a relationship, a change of work, who have made the pros and cons list twice and still feel uncertain and unsettled. There are also the people who have been stuck at the same roadblock for longer than they'd like to admit, who cannot quite name the obstacle, let alone the way through it, and who are tired of landing in the same spot. And it helps the people who already sense the answer and keep overriding it, because logic or other people's opinions felt safer than their own gut.

If you have ever left a decision half-made because you couldn't justify the thing you already knew, this work is largely about closing that gap. Not by adding certainty from the outside, but by helping you reach your own signal and act on it. Learning to tell that signal apart from fear is its own skill, and I have written about how to do that if you want the practice. If you are wondering whether this is for you, here is a fuller picture of who I tend to work with.

You leave with more of yourself, not less

Here is the reframe I care about most, and the one that sets this apart from the kind of intuitive work that would put my own guard up, too. Intuitive coaching is not a guru relationship where I tell you what's blocking you and you keep coming back for more, and it does not leave you needing me to know your own life. It is meant to do the opposite.

All the answers you seek are already within you. My job is not to install wisdom you're missing. It is to bring you to the place where you can hear what you already know, and then to get out of the way. Intuition is a bit like a muscle. The more you use it, the clearer it gets, and the less you need anyone, me included, to tell you which way to go.

All the answers you seek are already within you.

The training behind this, if you're curious, is a certification as a Gifted Intuitive Coach through Sonia Choquette's program, alongside years of my own practice. You can read more of that path on my about page. I name it as training, not a pedestal, because the whole point is that the knowing lives in you, not in me.

Questions that tend to come up

Is intuitive coaching the same as a psychic reading?

Not quite. A reading tends to be someone giving you information about your life. Intuitive coaching is about building your own ability to reach that knowing yourself, so you leave more able to trust your own read, not more reliant on mine. Both have their place. It comes down to whether you want an answer, or the ability to find your own.

What does an intuitive coach actually do?

More than listen, and more than echo your own words back at you. A lot of the work is invisible and happens on my side, holding a steady, grounded space and using real skill to make your own sensing easier, so the knowing you couldn't reach alone becomes reachable. From there I help you meet it, reflect back what I sense as an invitation, and, through the Aligned Living method, look at how your space and habits are supporting or crowding that knowing. What you won't get is a rigid formula, or someone telling you what to do.

Do I have to believe in anything for it to work?

Not at all. You can think of intuition as a spiritual sense, or simply as your own quiet wisdom, and the practice lands the same either way. You get to bring your own meaning to it, skeptic or believer.

Who is intuitive coaching for?

It tends to suit sensitive, thoughtful people at a turning point, who can feel the answer but haven't learned to trust it yet. If that sounds like you, it is probably worth exploring.
